Bollywood star Aamir Khan, who recently announced that he will be taking a break from acting, has said that he will return to acting after a year.
Aamir, who plays a cameo in the Revathy-directed Kajol-starrer Salaam Venky, said, “I have been working continuously for years. So, I wanted to spend time with my family for a while. There’s also Paani Foundation work going on. I will return to acting after a year. For now, you can see me in a small role in Salaam Venky.”
The actor was speaking at the Salaam Venky premiere in Mumbai on Wednesday night.
Aamir’s decision to take a break from acting had come after his mother suffered a cardiac arrest around Diwali this year. Aamir’s ambitious last release Laal Singh Chaddha didn’t do well at the box office. The actor was supposed to start a sports film directed by Shubh Mangal Saavadhan maker R.S. Prasanna but it seems like the film has been postponed.
Talking about his role in Salaam Venky, Aamir praised everyone associated with the film. “Actually, this film is not about me. It is about Venky. It will touch your heart. It is based on the true story of Venky and his mother Sujata, which is inspirational. I was happy to know that Revathy wanted to make a film about this story. It’s a beautiful gem of a film. Every artist has worked so well, especially Kajol and Vishal Jethwa. Vishal is a fantastic actor,” he said.
“I am very happy and proud to be part of this film. I’m glad that Revathy gave me a chance to be a part of this film. Of course, the film is above all of us. I hope that people like the film and all of us can learn something from the life of Venky and Sujata,” Aamir added.
Salaam Venky will be released in cinemas on December 9. The film has an ensemble cast featuring Kajol, Vishal Jethwa, Rajeev Khandelwal, Priyamani, Prakash Raj, and Aamir Khan, with a special appearance by Kamal Sadanah with whom Kajol made her debut in Bekhudi. They will be reuniting on-screen after 30 years.
