Oscar-winning composer A. R. Rahman and wife Saira Banu’s recent divorce announcement after 29 years of marriage has taken the internet by storm. Before Rahman and Banu, the year 2024 saw at least five celebrity couples walking out of their marriages. Here’s a look at their stories.

Hardik Pandya and Natasa Stankovic:

Team India cricketer Hardik Pandya and Natasa Stankovic decided to part ways in July after four years of marriage. In a joint statement on social media, they confirmed that they would continue to co-parent their four-year-old son Agastya.

“After 4 years of being together, Hardik and I have decided to mutually part ways. We tried our best together and gave it our all, and we believe this is in the best interest for the both of us…. We are blessed with Agastya, who will continue to be at the centre of both our lives and we will co-parent to ensure that we give him everything that we can for his happiness,” they wrote on Instagram.

Natasa and Hardik had a low-key court wedding on May 31, 2020, during the first Covid lockdown. Their son was born on July 30, 2020. On February 14, 2023, they renewed their wedding vows in a ceremony in Udaipur. However, Natasa’s absence from this year’s IPL and World Cup matches, along with her silence on Team India’s World Cup win, sparked rumours of their separation.

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet:

Aquaman star Jason Momoa and his wife Lisa Bonet filed for divorce in January after seven years of marriage. Bonet and Momoa reportedly share custody of their two children —16-year-old daughter Lola and 15-year-old son Nakoa. The two stars met and began dating in 2005, before tying the knot in late 2017.

Bonet is best known for starring in the American sitcom The Cosby Show (1984-1992). She also featured in films such as High Fidelity (2000) and Enemy of the State (1998). The 57-year-old actress was previously married to singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz and shares a daughter, actress Zoe Kravitz, with the musician.

Momoa, on the other hand, is currently in a relationship with actress Adria Arjona.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck:

Nicknamed ‘Bennifer’ by fans and tabloids, Hollywood power couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck ended their marriage in August. Lopez and Affleck first dated from mid-2002 to early 2004. The Gigli and Jersey Girl co-stars got engaged in November 2002, but their planned wedding on September 14, 2003, was postponed just four days before the ceremony. The couple partly blamed excessive media scrutiny for their split.

Lopez and Affleck reunited sometime in April 2021, with the On the Floor singer confirming their renewed relationship that July. In April 2022, Lopez announced their second engagement, 20 years after the first proposal.They married in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, and held a reception for family and friends the following month. However, on August 20, 2024, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck.

The actress-singer recently celebrated her 55th birthday with an opulent Bridgerton-themed party, which was not attended by Affleck.

Lopez had been married thrice before. Affleck was married to actress Jennifer Garner for 13 years with whom he shares three children.

Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik:

A day after pictures of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik’s wedding with actress Sana Javed went viral on social media in January this year, former tennis star Sania Mirza’s sister Anam Mirza confirmed that Sania and Shoaib had been divorced for a few months.

“Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now,” wrote Anam in her post on Instagram.

Sania and Shoaib got engaged in 2009. They exchanged vows on April 12, 2010 in Hyderabad. Later, a ceremony was held in Sialkot, Pakistan. The couple welcomed their son, Izhaan Mirza Malik, in October 2018.

The 41-year-old Shoaib married Pakistani actress Sana Javed on January 19, 2024.

Jayam Ravi and Aarti Ravi:

Ponniyin Selvan star Jayam Ravi announced his divorce from wife Aarti Ravi in September after 15 years of marriage. Shortly after this announcement, Aarti, who is the daughter of noted television producer Sujatha Vijayakumar, took to Instagram to share that the decision was taken by the actor without her knowledge or consent.

“I was deeply shocked and saddened by the recent public announcement regarding our marriage, which was made without my knowledge or consent. After 18 years of shared history, I believe that such a significant matter should be handled with the grace, respect, and privacy that it deserves,” she wrote on the social media platform. Jayam and Aarti had tied the knot in 2009. They have two sons, Aarav and Ayaan.
