The new teaser trailer for A Haunting in Venice, dropped by 20th Century Studios on Thursday, promises a sail through the still waters of the historic city with Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot as the famed Belgian sleuth investigates a murder during a seance that went horribly wrong under eerie circumstances.

Beginning with the dance of death motif on a table, the one-minute-54-second-long teaser-trailer is full of sinister hints about something supernatural at work. A retired Poirot looks sombre after being forced back into investigating a murder that took place during a séance at a halloween party at a haunted house in Venice. The dapper detective must now work his “little grey cells” overtime to figure out what’s been happening and why.

The official synopsis reads, “Set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve, A Haunting in Venice is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.”

Based on Agatha Christie’s novel Hallowe’en Party, the film is a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and Death on the Nile (2022). Helmed by Branagh, the murder mystery also stars Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarcio and Michelle Yeoh in key roles.

A Haunting in Venice will arrive in cinemas on September 15.
