75th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations: HBO’s Succession leads race with 27 nods, Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel makes history

While HBO’s Succession, The Last of Us and The White Lotus have topped the list of nominations for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, Amazon's The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel has created Emmy history by receiving the most number of nominations for a streaming comedy series across five seasons.

The nominations were announced by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on July 12. Succession came out on top with 27 total nominations, including a record-setting three nominations in the best actor in a drama category for Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong.

The Last of Us, which is a post-apocalyptic drama based on a video game, wracked up 24 nominations in various categories, including nominations for best actor and actress for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

Season 2 of The White Lotus earned 23 nominations, including five nominations in the best supporting actress in a drama category.

The third season of Apple TV’s Jason Sudeikis-led sports comedy drama series Ted Lasso got 21 nominations, while Season 1 of the hit FX/Hulu series The Bear broke into the race with 13 nominations, including the best actor in a comedy series for Jeremy Allen White.

The fifth and final season of Amazon Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel nabbed 14 noms this year and became the most-ever Emmy-nominated streaming comedy series with a total of 80 nominations across five seasons.

Other shows with the most nominations this year include Netflix’s Beef and Dahmer — both got 13 nominations each — while the final season of HBO’s Barry and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building earned 11 nods each. Amazon Prime Video series Daisy Jones & The Six got nine nominations and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power received six nods.

The final season of AMC’s Better Call Saul received seven nominations, while Disney’s Obi-Wan Kenobi got five nominations.

In terms of platforms - HBO/Max led the race with 127 total nominations followed by Netflix with 103. Apple TV+ was third with 46 nods, while Hulu and Prime Video got 42 each.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony is slated to take place on September 18, but it may be postponed due to the 2023 Writers’ Guild of America strike and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
