70th National Film Awards: Rishab Shetty bags best actor for Kantara, Malayalam movie Aattam wins best film

While Nithya Menen and Manasi Parekh jointly clinched the best actress award, Sooraj Barjatya won the best director award for Uunchai

Actor Rishab Shetty bagged the best actor trophy for his role in the 2022 Kannada blockbuster Kantara at the 70th National Film Awards announced on Friday by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Actresses Nithya Menen and Manasi Parekh jointly clinched the best actress award for their films Thiruchitrambalam and Kutch Express, respectively.

While Malayalam movie Aattam, directed by Anand Ekarshi, won the best film award, the best director trophy went to Sooraj Barjatya for Uunchai starring Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Neena Gupta, Parineeti Chopra, Anupam Kher, Nafisa Ali, Sarika and Danny Denzongpa.

Pritam won the best music award for Brahmastra, a sci-fi fantasy adventure headlined by Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The Dharma Productions-backed film, featuring a hit cameo by Shah Rukh Khan, also bagged the best visual effects award.

Kaberi Antardhan won the best Bengali film, while Aparajito bagged the award for best production design. Ananda Addhya is the designer for Aparajito, the film for which Somnath Kundu won the best makeup award.

Starring Prosenjit Chatterjee and Srabanti, Kaberi Antardhan is a Kaushik Ganguly-directed drama. Aparajito, on the other hand, is a tribute to legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray.

Yash-starrer K.G.F: Chapter 2 helmed by Prashanth Neel won the best Kannada feature film award. Stunt choreographer Anbariv bagged the best action director award for the film.

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 bagged the best Tamil feature film. PS:1 featured an ensemble star cast including Aishwarya Rai, Vikram and Sobhita Dhulipala. Composer A.R. Rahman won the best background music award for the film.

Actor Manoj Bajpayee got a special mention for his performance in the Disney+ Hotstar film Gulmohar, which also bagged the best Hindi feature film award. Also starring Sharmila Tagore, Gulmohar is a family drama directed by Rahul V. Chittella.

Among musicians, Arijit Singh bagged the best playback singer award (male) for Brahmastra song Kesariya, while Bombay Jayashri won the best playback singer (female) for Malayalam film Saudi Baby Coconut CC.225/2009.
