The young man with puppy dog eyes who wooed Anne Hathaway so convincingly in The Idea of You is becoming quite the rising romantic star in Hollywood. Twenty-nine-year-old Nicholas Galitzine from London has played the romantic lead in quite a few movies of late and hasn’t shied away from queer characters either. An actor and a singer, he has sung all the August Moon and Hayes Campbell songs in The Idea of You that dropped on Amazon Prime Video on May 2. Beat Beneath Your Feet
Galitzine made his film debut in 2014, starring alongside Luke Perry, as teenager Tom Heath, the son of a single mother who discovers that his asocial neighbour (Perry) is an erstwhile rockstar who disappeared from public view. Tom uses the knowledge to blackmail him into teaching him how to play the guitar.
High Strung
Galitzine played moody violinist Johnnie Blackwell who is living in the US illegally and performs on the New York subway. He meets a classical ballet student from the Manhattan Conservatory of Arts and is given a chance to earn his visa by winning a competition at the Conservatory with the girl.
Handsome Devil
The first queer character Galitzine played was that of Conor, a closeted star rugby player in an elite school who strikes up an unlikely friendship with his roommate Ned. When their homophobic coach discovers Conor is gay, he is blackmailed. Ned accidentally outs Conor and the coach doesn’t want him on the team, but his teammates rally behind him and they end up winning the match.
Cinderella
Galitzine’s foray into mainstream films came with his role as the handsome Prince Robert in the musical reimagining of Cinderella in 2021. He starred opposite Camilla Cabello’s Elle, a seamstress in the movie. Galitzine has sung eight songs in the film, which is available on Amazon Prime Video, and gathered a significant fan following.
Purple Hearts
In Netflix’s musical romance Purple Hearts, Galitzine plays Luke Morrow, a Marine about to be deployed who marries singer-songwriter Cassie Salazar after he realises that marrying her would solve his money issues and get Cassie the health insurance that will cover her insulin cost. Over the course of the journey, the two end up falling in love and making the marriage real.
Red, White & Royal Blue
Galitzine gained heartthrob status in the Amazon Prime original film Red, White & Royal Blue, the popular adaptation of a novel of the same name. Galitzine plays Prince Henry, the second son of the British royal family, a closeted man, who falls for his archnemesis Alex Clairemont-Diaz, the son of the first female president of the United States.
