It’s also that time of the year when Durga Puja special songs are released. Continuing the legacy of ‘pujor gaan’, here are six Puja songs that have come out this year.

Abar Ele Mago (Bickram Ghosh)

Written by Sugata Guha and composed by Bickram Ghosh, this paen to Devi Durga has been sung by Iman Chakraborty, Trissha Chatterjee, Hriti Tikadar, Shovan Ganguly, Arnab Chakraborty and Nirmalya Roy. Carrying the signature touches of any Bickram Ghosh composition, the song gives a feel of Durga Puja with the celebratory dhaak beats.

Tumi Doyamoy (Aditi Munshi)

This devotional song by legendary composer-songwriter Rajanikanta Sen has been beautifully renditioned by kirtan singer Aditi Munshi. Her voice has a charming tonality and the music arrangement by Prattyush Banerjee is top-notch. The use of traditional instruments enhances the feel of the song.

Phire Paowa (Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and Amit Kumar)

Composed by Shiladitya Raj, the album Phire Paowa seeks to bring back the lost legacy of pujor gaan. The album evokes memories of Durga Puja pandals blaring popular film songs in our childhood. This is the first time that singers Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and Amit Kumar have featured together in one album. Their voices add to the ’90s vibe.

Joy Maa Durga Maa (Ranita Banerjee)

Written and composed by Ayan Banerjee and sung by Ranita Banerjee, this album is a celebration of the spirit of Durga Puja, from the beats of dhaak to the depiction of pujor prem in the music video. The lyrics capture the gamut of experiences one has during the four festive days — from pandal-hopping to offering anjali and finding a romantic interest in the crowd. The music arrangement by Sovon Ganguly could have been better though.

Din Phurailo Hori Hori Bolo (Jayati Chakraborty)

Veteran singer Jayati Chakraborty has released a folk song this Durga Puja. This popular baul track, written and composed by Lalon Fakir, has been beautifully arranged and recreated by Prattyush Banerjee. The fusion of khol, flute and guitar is pleasing to the ears.

Joy Maa Durga (Babul Supriyo)

Babul Supriyo has taken time out of his public duties to record a Durga Puja song. Written by Shyamal Sarkar, this song has been composed by Babul Bose. Somen Sarkar Kutty has done the music arrangements.
