The recently concluded 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa witnessed a string of big-scale screenings and premieres.
CAL CONNECTION
Representing Calcutta was Arjunn Dutta’s Deep Fridge, which saw its IFFI premiere on November 27 and had Arjunn, along with actress Tnusree C, cinematographer Supratim Bbhol and music director Soumya Rit in the house. “This was my second time at IFFI after Abyakto and it was really overwhelming. This selection is a validation that I am in the right direction. The film was well received by the audience and we had an enriching Q&A session post the screening. We were also invited to the chief minister Pramod Sawant’s IFFI party and we had a great time there too,” Arjunn told t2.

“This was my first time at IFFI, though my film Tonic had been showcased at the festival last year. Deep Fridge is a very special film and I have grown to share a beautiful bond with Arjunn. It was a wonderful experience at IFFI and everyone loved the film and the performances,” said Tnusree.
Deep Fridge tells the story of Swarnava (Abir Chatterjee) and Mili (Tnusree) who are victims of a vicious, prejudiced idea of a perfectly happy marriage. “Deep Fridge chronicles the journey of such a couple with a child post their divorce,” Arjunn had earlier told t2.
HORROR FEST
Naga Chaitanya Akkineni’s streaming debut Dhootha was a well-attended affair at IFFI, with the first episode of the supernatural horror series (all episodes are now available on Prime Video) being screened. Chay, as he is popularly known, plays a corrupt journalist in the series produced by Sharrath Marar and directed by Vikram K. Kumar. “I couldn’t have asked for a better series to make my streaming debut. As an actor, I consume a lot of content on OTT and always wanted to explore the space,” said actor Nagarjuna’s son, who made his Bolly debut last year with Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha.

Also present at IFFI was Parvathy Thiruvothu, who makes her Telugu debut with Dhootha, and plays an upright cop in the series. “I am a fan of suspenseful thrillers, but the decision to be a part of Dhootha was more of the script choosing me than me choosing it,” Parvathy told the IFFI audience.
