If a cosy night with blood-curdling horror is your favourite way to spend Halloween, there’s no better choice than binge-watching spooky films with a friend and a throw to cover your eyes. Here’s our pick of five films revolving around young adults on OTT platforms for a scare fest tonight.
The Fear Street Trilogy (2021)
Based on the books by R.L. Stine, The Fear Street Trilogy follows the story of a small town called Shadyside, where a series of brutal murders took place over a span of 300 years. The three-part story moves back and forth between the 17th and 20th centuries as it chronicles tales of witchcraft and sacrificial killings. Featuring Stranger Things stars Sadie Sink and Maya Hawke and Trinkets star Kiana Madeira, the horror trilogy will keep you hooked until the real reasons behind the murders is revealed at the end.

The Babysitter (2017)
Directed by McG, The Babysitter is a dark horror comedy about Cole, a teen boy who falls for his babysitter. Starring Judah Lewis as Cole and Samara Weaving as the babysitter aka Bee, the story follows Cole discovering that his babysitter is a member of a satanic club and plans to sacrifice him for a ritual. While Cole thinks of ways to save himself, Bee and her friends are hell-bent on killing him to find favour with the Devil.

Friend Request (2016)
Directed by German filmmaker Simon Verhoeven, Friend Request follows Laura (Alycia Debnam-Carey), who accepts the friend request of Marina (Liesl Ahlers) on Facebook. Laura’s social media reach starts to drop after Marina dies by suicide and posts a video blaming Laura for it. While Laura struggles to come to terms with the situation, a dark presence takes over her. Things begin to take a sinister turn when Laura’s friends start to die one after another after she accepts a cryptic friend request on Facebook again.

Carrie (2013)
A remake of the classic 1976 adaptation of the Steven King book of the same name, Carrie is a Chloe Grace Moretz show all the way. The movie follows Carrie, a shy teenager sheltered by her religious mother. But she has telekinetic powers that unleashes hell upon her classmates after a prank on the prom night. While the story remains the same as the 1976 version, where a bullied teen takes revenge on her classmates, the 2013 Kimberly Pierce-directed version is a more modern take on the classic horror movie.

Jennifer’s Body (2006)
The 2006 movie directed by Karyn Kusama has found a cult following as the film’s horror elements carry a social message. Megan Fox plays the hotshot cheerleader Jennifer, whose best friend Anita (Amanda Seyfried) is obsessed with her. As Jennifer starts killing off boys one after another, Anita tries to stop her best friend from killing her boyfriend Chip (Johnny Simmons).
