Since her breakthrough role as Max Mayfield in the Netflix series Stranger Things, Sadie Sink has become as popular as her co-star and Emmy Award nominee Millie Bobby Brown (who plays Eleven in the show). Sink’s upcoming film The Whale, co-starring Brendan Fraser, received a six-minute standing ovation at the 79th Venice Film Festival recently. And the 20-year-old looked stunning in a powder blue Alexander McQueen gown at the Venice premiere of The Whale, which is slated to release theatrically on December 9.
The red-head diva is taking over Hollywood one project at a time and here are five reasons why we can’t help but fall in love with her.
Red hair don’t care
Sink’s ginger hair has become the talk of the town. Her wavy, beach locks have become her signature style.
The Broadway star
Sink’s career took off after she played Max Mayfield in Stranger Things. Before making it to the Netflix science fiction series, Sadie was a popular face in Broadway theatre in New York. She acted alongside Helen Mirren in the 2015 Broadway production The Audience, as a young Queen Elizabeth II. Sink also played the title role in the musical Annie, proving her talent as both a singer and actor.
Fashion forward style
While Max Mayfield has a pretty toned down ’90s style in Stranger Things, Sink is quite a fashionista in real life who loves mixing modern and classic silhouettes. She wore a bejewelled Gucci gown with simple side-parted hair at the 2020 SAG Awards.
The actress also prefers laid-back outfits from time to time, and for the 2021 premiere of Fear Street, Sink opted for an all-black everything-Prada look — high-waist trousers with a bandeau crop top, chunky loafers and middle-parted hair.
Filmography
Fear Street (2021) is a horror trilogy with slasher horror themes and a storyline that spans 300 years. Sink plays one of the main protagonists, Ziggy Berman, in the trilogy based on the books by Goosebumps writer R.L. Stine. Fear Street also stars Maya Hawke, Kiana Madeira and Gillian Jacobs among others.
Sink featured in Taylor Swift’s 2022 MTV VMA-winning long-form video All Too Well. She starred alongside Dylan O’Brien (who played her boyfriend) in the 14-minute-55-second short film directed by Swift. The short film is now in the running for an Oscar nomination.
Sink has also featured in a number of projects including Eli (2019) and The Glass Castle (2017). Her upcoming film, Dear Zoe, is set for a November release.
Sink’s Stranger Things gang
The cast of Stranger Things enjoys a close bond and often become more fun versions of themselves when around each other.
It is, however, Sink and Millie Bobby Brown’s friendship that stands out. The duo were pitched as onscreen best friends in Season 3 of Stranger Things but soon became real-life besties.
Sink Bobby Brown vacationed in Cabo, Mexico, with their families after the wrap-up of the second season of Stranger Things. The girls also gave their fans a happy surprise by singing When I’m Gone from Pitch Perfect.
Sink is also pretty close to Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas Sinclair in Stranger Things. On screen, Caleb’s Lucas and Sadie’s Max are love interests, but off-screen they are total goofballs. They shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the sets of Stranger Things where Max is possessed by Vecna and Lucas is supposed to save her at the last minute.
