It is unfortunate that Ezra Miller is making the news for controversies and legal issues instead of what they actually should be recognised for – a talented actor who has shown time and again what they are capable of on screen. Even though Warner Bros. are still backing the The Flash movie scheduled for a June 2023 release, where Miller plays The Flash, we wonder how far his career will go if the allegations keep piling up. Why do we even care? Because we’ve followed Miller’s career and are wowed by their talent many times over. Here are five of Ezra Miller’s top performances till now.

We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)

Though Miller debuted with the 2008 film Afterlife, it was their role as the disturbed, psychopathic teenager Kevin in Lynne Ramsay’s adaptation of Lionel Shriver's book that was their breakout role and probably their career-best performance. By now we know that Miller is made for dark, broody characters and they were truly disturbing in the film. Sinister and evil, Miller as Kevin will always be a mark above the rest.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

It isn’t often that a supporting character steals the limelight from really good main characters but Miller did it as the flamboyant and eclectic Patrick in this coming-of-age film directed by Stephen Chbosky. They owned the role of the high-school senior who, along with Emma Watson’s Sam, takes Logan Lerman’s Charlie under their wing. This was the film that put Miller on the world map, earning him accolades and awards.

The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015)

This docudrama based on a real-life experiment conducted by a Stanford psychologist, where a group of 24 male students were selected to play either prisoners or guards in a makeshift prison, was an ensemble cast with some incredible performances, including Miller’s standout performance as Daniel Culp or Prisoner 8612. They perfectly capture the growing tension in the film reflected in their inner turmoil as they give in to fear and anger.

Fantastic Beasts (2016-2022)

It wasn’t surprising to see Miller in the role of the shy, menacing, cynical yet vulnerable Obscurial, Credence Barebone. Dark, broody, tortured – the role seemed tailor-made for Miller who makes an impact in the first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Whether you are unhappy about how the character changes Harry Potter history or not, you can’t ignore that Miller was one of the better things to have happened to the franchise.

Justice League (2017)

In a film that was only good because it was an improvement on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is not saying much, Miller’s performance as Barry Allen aka The Flash (along with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman) was one of the saving graces. They embody the youthful joy of a person who is thrilled to be part of a superhero league. Miller’s The Flash made such an impact that he even got a film of his own, scheduled for June 2023 release.

We don’t know which way Miller’s career will go following all the increasingly disturbing allegations but we hope we will not lose yet another good actor to bad choices.
