Right from hot and brooding Damon Salvatore’s sarcastic jabs at his brother to Luke’s lame antics around his sisters, brothers in TV shows share a fun and sometimes complicated relationship with their siblings. We take a look at five of our favourite TV brothers.
The annoying younger brother
Younger siblings are always the most annoying, or at least that is what elder siblings will tell you. While Luke (played by Nolan Gould) from Modern Family might not be as bright as his sister Alex (played by Ariel Winter) or as popular as Haley (played by Sarah Hyland), he certainly has a charm of his own. From saving up all his lunch money (just for Haley to ask him for financial help later) to making his sisters believe he is stupid to just get a room of his own, Luke is a younger sibling to look out for.
The go-to elder brother
In one of the most heartwarming moments from Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things Season 4, Jonathan (Charlie Heathon) has a heart-to-heart chat with his younger brother, Will (Noah Schnapp). While fans have been speculating that Will might have a crush on his best friend Mike, Jonathan seems to have figured it out already. Even when Will goes missing in the first season, Jonathan does everything in his power to look for his little brother.
The brothers who don’t always get along
The love-triangle trope might be overused but it always works, especially when it comes to vampires. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) from The Vampire Diaries aren’t just competitive when it comes to their love interest, Elena (Nina Dobrev) but also when it comes to saving each other from death. Damon’s sarcasm knows no bounds around Stefan and the way he pokes fun at his younger brother’s vegetarian diet is hilarious.
The sarcastic brother
Alexis (Annie Murphy) and David (Dan Levy) from Schitt’s Creek have the most sarcastic energy around each other. Since the first episode, Alexis and David fight over which bed they get because the one who sleeps closest to the door has the highest chance of getting murdered first. While they usually have each other’s back, David never leaves a chance to get younger sister Alexis into trouble.
The competitive but protective brother
Grey’s Anatomy heartthrob Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) may have been everyone’s knight in shining armour but his relationship with his sister Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) is precisely what brought out his flaws as a character. The sibling duo had always been competitive when it came to surgery and even chose the same hospital to work at. Derek might not have been a perfect brother but he stepped up when he needed to — in Season 7, he shared how he had once saved Amelia from getting shot at during a robbery.
