12th Fail actress Medha Shankr was presented with the ‘Breakout Star’ STARmeter Award by IMDb for her performance in the Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial, the online entertainment database platform announced on Thursday.
“We’re excited to present The IMDb "Breakout Star" STARmeter Award to @medhashankr for her performance as Shraddha Joshi in 12th Fail, which also marked the rise in her popularity on IMDb,” IMDb wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of the 27-year-old actress holding the transparent trophy with a silver star on the top.
The actress, who made her debut with the British miniseries Beecham House alongside Tom Bateman and Lesley Nicol, shared the post on her Instagram story. “Thank you @imdb_in, this is special. Big hugs to you all for giving me so much love,” she wrote.
IMDb also shared a graph showing the actress’s rise in popularity over the years. After debuting with Beecham House in 2018, Medha went on to work in Shaadistan (2019), Dil Bekaraar (2021) and Max, Min and Meowzaki (2022) before her breakthrough performance in 12th Fail.
12th Fail, chronicles the life of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, played by Vikrant Massey, who overcame poverty and cracked UPSC. The film released in theatres on October 27 last year.
In the film, Medha played the role of Shraddha Joshi, an aspiring deputy collector, who stood by Manoj’s side through thick and thin in his rocky journey towards success.
After 12th Fail was made available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar on December 29, the actress trended at the no. 2 on IMDb’s Popular Indian Celebrities Feature for a week.
“@MedhaShankr trends at #2 in this week’s IMDb Popular Indian Celebrities Feature after her role as Shraddha Joshi in #12thFail , which ranks #1 on IMDb’s Top 250 Indian Movies list as of January 2024 ,” IMDb wrote on January 10.
After its OTT release, the film acquired the topmost position on IMDb’s list of highest-rated Indian movies of all time, surpassing even Hollywood hits Oppenheimer and Barbie.
12th Fail is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
