Chief minister Mamata Banerjee made the Sandeshkhali "sting video" the pivot of her speech on Monday to attack the BJP for defaming Bengal by creating "fake stories" of sexual assault, while at the same time accused the saffron party of "preparing a blueprint of lies" to anyhow win the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking at an election meeting in Sainthia of Birbhum in support of Trinamool Congress candidate Satabdi Roy, she accused the BJP and Narendra Modi of conspiracy. "BJP is preparing a blueprint to win elections by spreading lies. Will you vote for the Prime Minister who plots riots?" she asked.

Accusing the BJP of weaving a false narrative around Sandeshkhali, Mamata said, "Have you seen how they scripted Sandeshkhali drama and dishonoured the women? They don't know that money is not a big deal for the women. For them, rather self-respect and dignity matters. But they created a blueprint to win elections."

"Don't plot too much as eventually it will come to light," Mamata said in a warning to BJP.

Without naming Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, Trinamool chairperson accused the BJP of having two top leaders of "looting" the country and "defaming Bengal" at the same time to "hide their sins".

While the Trinamool supremo attacked the BJP from poll rallies by invoking issues like Sandeshkhali, on the ground Trinamool took out a rally in the North 24-Parganas' island to consolidate its support base.

Barely two weeks before Lok Sabha polls are to be held in the area, Trinamool organised a rally to protest the "scripted drama" over Sandeshkhali.

On Monday afternoon, around a thousand women walked in a protest rally from the ferry ghat to Trimohini market area of Sandeshkhali. The women, many of whom were seen taking part in the month-long agitation against Trinamool strongman Sheikh Shahjahan and his aides during January-February demanded punishment for Suvendu Adhikari for "conspiring to malign the image of women of the island". They also demanded unconditional release of Shahjahan, against whom the CBI and ED are conducting probes in connection with ration scam, rape and land-grab.

"We could never imagine that a leader like Suvendu Adhikari stooped so low for electoral gain. He should seek apology and be punished," Supriya Patra, a woman who joined the rally, told reporters.

Trinamool's local MLA Sukumar Mahato said: "The BJP wanted to gain votes by staging drama with women in Sandeshkhali. They have insulted entire Bengal by showing women as raped...."

Mahato also lashed out at the BJP's Basirhat candidate, Rekha Patra, whom the saffron party projected as the face of women's protest in Sandeshkhali.
