Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at bolstering support ahead of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, invoked the legacy of Lord Ram during a public rally in Darbhanga on Saturday.

Recognising the significance of the Ayodhya Ram Temple consecration, Modi sought to rekindle sentiments surrounding the historic event, particularly among voters aligned with Hindutva ideologies.

Addressing concerns over the lacklustre voter turnout and waning enthusiasm, particularly within the BJP, Modi's rhetoric underscored the enduring struggle and sacrifices that preceded the construction of the Ram Temple.

With chants of "Jai Shri Ram" punctuating his speech, the Prime Minister congratulated the audience on the culmination of this long-awaited endeavour.

“Our wait ended after 500 years. Our ancestors kept fighting and sacrificing over these years, but never became disheartened. They knew that some time a son will be born, who will fulfil the long wait of 500 years and build the temple,” Modi said.

“But the wait was not just for Lord Ram. It was also of Mother Sita and Mithila as well. We are seeing this auspicious time in this life and it is a big thing for us,” Modi added while playing to the gallery.

Reflecting on the broader significance of the Ram Temple consecration, Modi positioned it as a pivotal moment in India's trajectory, asserting that the nation was poised to lead global advancements for the next millennium.

The Prime Minister highlighted India's recent strides on the international stage, citing achievements such as lunar exploration and economic ascension.

In a bid to address criticisms regarding the Covishield vaccine's safety, Modi defended the government's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, emphasising India's resilience in overcoming the crisis and providing global leadership during tumultuous times.

Turning his attention to political opponents, Modi criticised the Congress and other Opposition parties for their treatment of Bihar's migrant workers during the pandemic-induced lockdown.

Modi accused them of neglecting the welfare of Bihar's populace and attempting to exploit their plight for political gain. He also lambasted Opposition figures, likening them to entitled rulers who prioritised personal interests over public welfare.

Drawing attention to Bihar's developmental progress under Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's leadership, the Prime Minister sought to contrast this with the alleged failures of his opponents.

Promising continued support for Bihar's development, Modi pledged additional housing initiatives and welfare measures for the state's underprivileged communities. He emphasised ongoing infrastructure projects in Darbhanga and initiatives to promote regional cultural heritage on a global scale.

In a final appeal to voters, Modi urged them to cast their ballots in favour of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates, positioning his coalition as the embodiment of progress and stability for Bihar's future.

Throughout his address, Modi interwove religious symbolism, developmental promises, and political jabs to craft a narrative aimed at galvanising support for his party and coalition allies.
