Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was always a worshiper of “power”, not “truth”.

“Our country is a worshiper of truth and not of power but Modi loves and worships power. He was never a worshiper of truth,” the Congress general secretary said in a public meeting after a road show in Saharanpur in support of party candidate Imran Masood on Wednesday.

Masood had polled 4.07 lakh votes in 2014 and lost to BJP’s Raghav Lakhanpak by about 65,000 votes. In 2019, he got 2.07 lakh votes when BSP’s Haji Fazlur Rahman won.

Later, Priyanka told reporters: “I am not a fortune teller but I can tell you that we are going to win a lot of seats this time. I went to Rajasthan and Uttarakhand and realised that the people are looking for a change. They are inclined towards us because they are tired of 10 years of useless politics.... Today is Ram Navami but people have no money to buy anything. Their needs are not fulfilled even if all the members of a family are working. But Modiji wouldn’t talk about these things.”

“Modiji is completely disconnected from the masses. It happens when you are in power for long”, she said.

Extending the discourse on “shakti” (power), which Rahul Gandhi had launched at a rally in Mumbai last month, Priyanka said Ram was worshipped because of his truthfulness and not because he had power and empire.
