PM Modi slams TMC government over cancellation of school job appointments after Calcutta HC order

'The TMC continues to play with the future of the youths in Bengal. They made such a big scam in the education department that snatched the livelihood of 26,000 families,' said Modi, during a public rally at Malda's Nityanandapur, in his first reaction to the recruitment scam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lashed out at the Trinamool Congress government in Bengal over the cancellation of 25,753 appointments at state-sponsored and aided schools in the state following a Calcutta High Court verdict.

He also accused the ruling dispensation in Bengal of destroying the future of the youths and trapping them in huge loans that they took to pay Trinamool leaders as bribes to get jobs.

"The TMC continues to play with the future of the youths in Bengal. They made such a big scam in the education department that snatched the livelihood of 26,000 families," said Modi, during a public rally at Malda's Nityanandapur, in his first reaction to the recruitment scam.

Two constituencies in the district — Malda North and Malda South — will go to the polls on May 7 and Modi held the meeting to campaign for the party nominees, Khagen Murmu and Sreerupa Mitra Choaudhuri.

"Not only did they ruin their (job-losers) future but also left those brothers and sisters with a huge burden of loans that they took to pay the Trinamool leaders as bribes," he added.

The Calcutta High Court's decision to cancel 25,753 school appointments on Monday has become a major issue in Bengal ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. While the BJP leadership has accused the Trinamul of putting the future of youths in jeopardy, the ruling party has blamed the saffron camp of taking away jobs from youths for political gains.

A BJP leader said Modi's comment on the job-cancellation issue assumes significance as it would help them to counter the Trinamool's narrative against the BJP of ruining the future of the youths with an alleged 'nexus' with a part of the judiciary.

Modi did not stop at talking about the high court order. He tore into Mamata Banerjee's party claiming that the TMC only means corruption of thousands of crores which includes several scams involving coal, cattle, ration, and government jobs.

"Under the Trinamool regime, only one thing exists — scams involving thousands of crores. Though the TMC leaders are culprits, the poor people of Bengal are paying for their crimes," said the Prime Minister.

Apart from attacking Trinamool, he also drew comparisons between the state and the central governments and mentioned how his government took a slew of measures to help the youths in getting jobs.

"On the contrary, the BJP-led government has been offering jobs to the youths... Schemes like Mudra Yojana and start-ups have helped the youths to be financially self-reliant. Newer sectors have emerged because of the BJP's policies, where the youths are getting ample opportunities. But in Bengal TMC has closed the doors for the development and progress of the youths," Modi said.

Mamata Banerjee, who attended two rallies in West Midnapore, continued her attack on the BJP over the job-cancellation issue by the court and said that the BJP leaders are 'job eaters' like man-eaters.

"Do you know man-eaters? You have certainly heard about man-eating tigers. Did you see the job-eater BJP party or job-eater CPM party?" Mamata viciously attacked the opposition over the job cancellation issue.
