BJP candidate Nisith Pramanik has written to the Election Commission (EC), requesting that Bengal minister Udayan Guha be confined to his booth on the day of election in the Cooch Behar constituency on April 19.

Pramanik, the sitting Cooch Behar MP and the Union minister of state for home, said in the letter that Guha had been perpetrating violence and had organised attacks twice on him ever since the general election had been declared.

“To ensure free and fair elections, Udayan Guha should be confined to his booth on the day of the poll (April 19). He is consistently disturbing BJP workers and making hate speeches. That is why I have written to the EC,” said the Cooch Behar BJP candidate.

Pramanik wrote to the EC on Monday.

In the past few weeks, supporters of the BJP and the Trinamool Congress clashed twice in the presence of Guha — Dinhata MLA and north Bengal development minister — and Pramanik.

The Dinhata Assembly segment is in the Cooch Behar Lok Sabha constituency.

On the other hand, Guha has accused Pramanik of drawing up a plan to “loot votes”.

“He wants to keep me confined to my booth to loot the votes as he is all set to lose the election. But he must think about the probable repercussions if I am confined to my booth,” said the minister.

According to Trinamool, BJP supporters ransacked
an e-rickshaw that was
engaged in Trinamul’s campaign at Bhetaguri, which
is 20km from here, on Wednesday. A Trinamul worker
was injured.
