The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, in 58 seats across six states and two Union Territories, clocked an overall turnout of 59.06 per cent (by 7.45pm) on Saturday against 64 per cent in 2019.

The uptick in voter turnout in Jammu and Kashmir continued with Anantnag-Rajouri witnessing a 35-year high of 52.28 per cent polling. In 2019, only 8.98 per cent voters had exercised their franchise in the pre-delimitation Anantnag.

Bengal’s eight seats polled the highest at 78.19 per cent, and Kashmir the lowest among the states and Union Territories.

In Delhi, where all seven seats went to the polls, CPM politburo member Brinda Karat questioned the failure of an EVM battery at her St Columba’s School booth when she was about to cast her vote around 9am. Voting resumed in 15 minutes.

With this, polling in 486 out of 543 seats has been completed.
