One Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawan was killed and 39 injured when a bus carrying them turned turtle after hitting a road divider along GT Road in Bagodar of Giridih district, some 150km from state capital Ranchi in Jharkhand on Tuesday afternoon.
The private bus was carrying over 40 paramilitary forces for election duty from Giridih to Ranka in Garhwa district when it dashed against a road divider near Ghaghra Science College, as per locals, while trying to save a biker, and turned turtle in the process after one of its front tyre deflated.
The name of the deceased IRB jawan is Vikash Bhagat a resident of Lohardaga in Jharkhand.
Around 39 jawans received injuries in the mishap and were rushed to Bagodar Trauma Center for treatment. Around four jawans, who had sustained critical injuries, were then referred to Patliputra Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad.
Giridih SP Deepak Sharma had reached the spot and has ordered a probe into the mishap and monitoring the treatment of the injured jawans.
As per reports, the deceased jawan Vikas Bhagat was married a month ago was a 2019 batch IRB jawan and was sitting in the front seat of the bus and had his head severed from the body due to the impact of the mishap and was killed on the spot.
The locals had helped in rescuing the jawans struck in the bus and also arranged for helping in turning the overturned bus.
Ganja seized
Jharkhand police have arrested a man and recovered 67 kg of ganja, valued at ₹ 35 lakh, from his possession during a raid in East Singhbhum district, an officer said on Tuesday, reports PTI.
Acting on a tip-off, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal on Monday directed SP (Rural) Rishav Garg to form a team to investigate and apprehend the culprits.
Addressing a press conference, Kaushal said the team during a raid in the Bhondosol village under Ghatsila sub-division recovered 66.9 kg of the contraband on Monday afternoon.
The accused has been identified as Tikaram Soren,29, he said, adding that the ganja was stuffed in 32 packets and kept in four sacks. Soren revealed that the ganja was procured from Odisha.
