The fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections in 96 constituencies spread over 10 states and Union Territories saw a voter turnout of nearly 63 per cent.

At 8pm, the Election Commission’s “average voter turnout trend” was 62.84 per cent. In 2019, the final turnout for the corresponding 96 seats was 68.8 per cent.

The eight seats in Bengal recorded the highest turnout at 75.94 per cent. Srinagar was the lowest at 38.3 per cent although this is the highest turnout for the seat since 1996.

Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from all across Andhra Pradesh where Assembly polls were held simultaneously. A polling agent of the YSR Congress was reportedly stabbed by an alleged Telugu Desam Party supporter at Mandi Krishnapuram in Chittoor district. YSRCP leader and Tenali MLA A. Shiva Kumar allegedly manhandled a voter at Tenali in Guntur district following an argument, police said, adding the voter also retaliated.

YSR Congress also wrote to the EC, alleging poll code violations by rival TDP in several Assembly segments, including Vemuru, Darsi, Icchapuram, Kuppam, Macherla, Markapuram, Palakonda and Pedakurapaudu.

In Hyderabad, an FIR was filed against motormouth BJP candidate K. Madhavi Latha for entering a polling station and asking burqa-clad women voters to show their faces to compare with the voter identity cards.

In Madhya Pradesh, Khargone recorded the highest turnout at 75.79 per cent, while Indore logged the lowest at 60.53 per cent.

In Odisha, around 63 per cent of 62.87 lakh voters exercised their franchise till 5pm in the four Lok Sabha and 28 Assembly constituencies, officials said.

Voting started at 7am in 7,303 polling stations in Berhampur, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi parliamentary constituencies along with 28 Assembly segments within the jurisdiction of these seats.

With this phase, voting in 380 seats has been completed.
