Watch this space: it’s the dress rehearsal before the final flamboyant performance. But it’s a dress rehearsal that could be entirely different from the final drama that plays out on the national stage on June 4.

After voting is over on Saturday, 6pm, the last day of polling, the exit polls will offer their predictions on which way the Lok Sabha elections will go. Will the BJP sweep to a third in a row hat trick victory vanquishing the combined Opposition?

Alternatively, will the Opposition pull one of the 21st century’s greatest political shock wins? Or could it conceivably be a closer match than anyone had predicted?

Being a pollster has become a giant game in India and dozens of players have leapt in to seize a piece of the electoral action. This evening, The Telegraph Online looks only at the predictions of the key players with the best track records. Inevitably, they’ve also had off days but they’ve had some big successes too.
