Congress candidate for Inner Manipur, Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, said on Sunday he entered electoral politics because of the prevailing worrisome situation in his state and he would endeavour to work for a “better Manipur”.
Akoijam said this during a reception held for both the Congress candidates at the Congress Bhavan in Imphal on Sunday. Soon after he arrived from Delhi on Sunday, Akoijam visited his residence, the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple and the Kangla Fort. Congress workers had lined up the streets near the airport to welcome him.
The Opposition Congress had on Friday announced the candidature of JNU professor Akoijam and former MLA Alfred K. Arthur for the Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur parliamentary seats respectively. Inner Manipur is currently held by BJP while Outer Manipur by BJP ally NPF.
The Manipur PCC had said on Friday said that the Opposition INDIA bloc in the state “unanimously agreed to nominate” the duo as the “common candidates” for both the seats.
