Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday did not sound aggressive to counter the purported sting video on Sandeskhali but asked chief minister Mamata Banerjee to apologise.
"Mamata didi, you're a woman chief minister and you should be ashamed of what has happened under your nose in Sandeshkhali. Trinamool leaders tortured 100s of women based on their religion but didi was not ready to arrest them. The (Calcutta) High Court had to hand over the case investigation to CBI as didi was not doing anything," said Shah at an election campaign in Durgapur on Monday.
Shah later told the people that efforts were made to hide the culprits of Sandeshkhali but they were arrested.
Moving on to the BJP's pet theme of CAA, Shah hit out at Mamata again. "Mamata didi, I am telling you that we will give citizenship to my Hindu brothers despite your Opposition," said Shah.
Shah said that no charges of corruption had been found against Narendra Modi since he was the Gujarat chief minister and contrasted this "honesty" with the corruption charges against Trinamool and Congress leaders.
"₹50 crore in cash was seized from the house of Didi's minister and in Jharkhand ₹350 crore in cash was found from the house of a Congress MP.... That money was looted. Do you want to see them behind bars?" the Union home minister asked.
Earlier, Shah also held a road show in Krishnanagar to back his party's candidate, Amrita Roy.
