The Congress on Wednesday complained to the Election Commission about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plans to meditate at the Rock Memorial of Kanyakumari from May 30 to June 1, billing it an effort to circumvent the 48-hour silent period before polling in Varanasi, the PM’s constituency.

“Through the meditation trip, Shri Narendra Modi is attempting to circumvent the 48-hour silence period and unfairly leverage the ethno-cultural significance of the chosen location in an attempt to bolster his campaign and maximise his vote-share; in violation of the Representation of the People Act, the model code of conduct and the orders concerning the dos and dont’s during the election that political parties and their candidates are required to adhere to,’’ the Congress wrote to the EC on Tuesday evening.
