Bhim army chief Chandrashekhar Azad visited the continuing protest outside Jamia Millia Islamia on Wednesday evening. Wearing his signature white shirt and blue shawl, with a copy of the Constitution of India in his hand, Azad was welcomed by protesting students with loud cheer and slogans.
The last time Azad was at Jamia was on the night of 15 December 2019, when Delhi police brutally attacked the university campus.
'Humare bhaiyon pe jo laathi padi hai, hum bhoole nahi hain (We haven't forgotten the lathi blows which fell on our brothers),' said Azad. Azad believes that the fight against black laws (referring to the Citizenship Amendment Act and NRC) and the struggle to save the Constitution are going to be long ones.
'Kabhi behno ke peeche bhi khade ho kar sangharsh karna seekho (At times, learn to fight standing behind your sisters),' he advised his ‘protesting brothers’.
'PM ko teen talaq ki awaz sunai dii, but hamari behno ki ye awaaz unhe nahi sunayi de rahi hai (PM Modi was all ears for teen talaq, but he has conveniently falled on deaf ears to the nationwide protests),' said Azad. He later said that the wazir-e-azam (Prime Minister) shouldn't forget that he owes his position and power to the Constitution.
