Expect: With International Women’s Day around the corner, the University of Engineering and Management will host the sixth edition of Cyclothon themed on ‘Empowering women and breaking the bias’. The cycling marathon will have men, women and children participating in 10km and 20km rounds. Starting from the university campus gate, the participants can choose to complete 10km by coming back to the gate after a single round or go for a double round of 20km. No prior registration is required. Cyclists will have to bring their own cycles to take part in the event. The university will give a medal to every participant completing their chosen category and a T-shirt, followed by a complimentary breakfast.

Organiser Speak: “This year, we have not kept any registration formality as we are looking forward to mass participation. When we started six years back, there weren’t so many cycle marathons. It was a unique concept started by us as we wanted to promote the idea of environmental protection and fitness. Every year, we have a theme for the event. This year, we wanted to promote women’s empowerment and hence chose our theme accordingly. We are looking forward to large-scale participation from the people of Calcutta,” said Satyajit Chakrabarti, chancellor, University of Engineering and Management.
