The South Korean Parliament passed key bills as a result of which most citizens will become younger by a year or two. South Korea uses three different age-counting systems. The international system, which has also been the official system since 1962. The Korean system derived from the ancient Chinese system; it counts the nine months in the womb. So a just-born baby is considered a year old and a year is added every January 1. Some use a system that is a mix of the two. According to it, a newborn is at age zero but a year is added to its age every January 1. The government decision follows a poll promise by Yoon Suk Yeol who won the presidential election in 2021. The new law will regularise the age of all as per the international system and eliminate costs arising from maintaining three systems.
