Mary Margaret Anthony Pillai moved the Kerala High Court seeking compensation for the death of her son Prijin A. In 2012, Prijin was 14 years old. He would have been in school except that his father had taken ill and the boy was forced to find a job to support his mother and seven sisters. Fredy was the owner of the fishing vessel, St. Antony. He hired Prijin to help the fishermen with the cooking. That day, when the Italian marines of oil tanker Enrica Lexie shot Ajeesh Pink and Jelastine, Prijin was there. He fled the scene, but thereafter fell into depression. In February 2019, his father died and in July, Prijin committed suicide. The Supreme Court closed the case this June after Italy deposited Rs 4 crore each for the two fishermen’s families, and Rs 2 crore for Fredy.
