To encourage and facilitate an increase in the number of women in the workforce as well as to empower more women leaders in the technology sector, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised its second edition of PINK IT on March 3 at Five Mad Men in Sector V, Salt Lake. The unique forum for women IT professionals and entrepreneurs enabled interactions on their challenges, visions, goals and success stories, both as a way of celebrating and also to help come up with new ideas and insights on developing better growth strategies or problem-solving techniques. Lead speaker Anjali Gupta, group head of marketing at Sify Technologies, shared the necessity of “asking for it” if women professionals believed that they were prepared to innovate, take risks and shoulder more responsibilities. Guest of honour Sing Jheng, director of Taipei World Trade Centre, Calcutta, said that the inclusion of women has enhanced performance, profitability, governance and sustainability in technology-based enterprises. She reiterated that society, government, industry and family must help break gender stereotypes and respect and empower all voices, groups, ethnicities and religions to create a better future for all. Director of Ensonic Computech, Minal Bhagat highlighted the importance of women leveraging their strength and applying their skills so that they never have to settle for less from either their organisation or their clients. Co-founder and managing director of Tier5 Technology Solutions Aunkita Nandi emphasised the power and potential reach of social media. Amrita Mukherjee, talent acquisition lead in Tata Consultancy Services, articulated the importance of retention over recruitment as an emerging trend in the IT sector.
