Pyjamas
With the world staying home in lockdown mode for more than half the year, sleepwear and especially pyjamas were the preferred OOTD. The trend scores big on the comfort factor and we saw fashionistas in a variety of styles in pyjamas — from coordinated sets to mismatched ones to some super sexy ones in satin and lace. Stars like Jennifer Aniston and Rachel Brosnahan turned the loungewear into ‘red-carpet’ looks as they attended and rocked the Emmy Award show from their homes in PJs. Actor Emma Roberts, too, had taken to Instagram to share a picture of herself in PJs in which she has been “living in”. Quarantine or not, even when the world gets rid of the deadly virus, we wish PJs never go out of style.
Kaftan
Anti-fit, versatile, has cool sleeves and can be dressed up or down, based on the occasion — kaftans have been one of the most popular microtrends of 2020. Actresses like Kareena Kapoor Khan (who can forget her living the K-life and moving in slow motion in a Masaba kaftan) and Shilpa Shetty Kundra have embraced it like second skin. The sheer versatility of the trend made it a hit — kaftans can be sported for a brunch as well as a Zoom meeting and even for a night out. Although kaftan as a trend is not a new one, but we simply love the fact that it is back and how!
Bucket hat
A trend that has been slowly trickling in from the West to the East is the bucket hat. All biggie fashion shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris saw models as well as celebs sport bucket hats. This kind of hat, which is often linked to rappers, the hip-hop community and fishers (to help them keep the sun away), has now evolved in different styles, most of which are cute. If you want to learn how to rock this hat trend in a stylish way, take a cue from Kylie Jenner, who is often spotted wearing an off-shoulder top with white baggy pants teamed with a cute powder pink bucket hat. Closer home, Ranveer Singh has been spotted wearing the accessory from brands like Prada and Adidas.
Headscarves
The Fall 2020 runaways saw headscarves doing the rounds, but little did we know that the fashion accessory will become a fave microtrend! With work from home becoming the new normal, scarves grew in popularity, so much so that brands like Zara, H&M, Christian Dior to Gucci, all launched scarves that people wore as bandana or headwrap. This trend is definitely one of our faves, because not only does it brighten up a dull attire, it also takes care of the bad hair days and no one finds out really! Camila Cabello to Dua Lipa, the pop stars have smashed the trend.
Coordinated masks
When you have to wear the mask every time you step out of the house, why not make it your best friend and have some fun with it! Billie Eilish had worn it as a cool fashion accessory on the Grammy red carpet much before masks became mandatory and gradually with time, designers, both international and local, started making masks in various fabrics, prints and designs. And before long, people started matching their masks with their outfits. Billie’s Gucci embellished net mask to Alia Bhatt’s printed one, coordinated masks are getting popularity by the hour and the trend is probably here to stay.
