The theme rockers

Jennifer Lopez might have skipped walking on the VMAs red carpet but the queen set the Met Gala red carpet on fire. She channelled a high-fashion cowgirl look in a Ralph Lauren number with a hat, broad brown belt, metallic necklace, thigh-high slit, and a faux fur jacket. The brown colour complemented her skin tone like a dream.

Last to make an entry, RIHANNA, the official after-party host of the event, turned out in an all-black ensemble. The singer was swaddled in a huge Balenciaga cloak, a knitted black beanie and lots of diamonds! “They understood the assignment” posted Met Museum on Instagram as Riri walked alongside A$AP Rocky. For someone who always stands up for Black lives, we feel this was the central theme of her look.

What’s America without denims? Lupita Nyong’o turned out in a head-to-toe Versace denim gown with a touch of peplum on the side. “Blue Jean Baby. @Versace Lady” she captioned her picture on IG.

A celeb who got the paps and fans guessing was Kim Kardashian. The celebrity known for her features and make-up game, turned out wearing an all-black Balenciaga bodysuit with a trail, with her face covered. Hair tied in a sleek pony and pointy high heels, we wonder how she even managed to see properly and walk without tripping.

KENDALL JENNER looked glamourous in a glittery nude dress by Givenchy. The supermodel’s look was inspired by My Fair Lady and she even took to her Instagram to post a snippet of Audrey Hepburn in the film.

Dan Levy choose a custom-made Loewe outfit for the evening that made a powerful statement for the LGBTQIA+ community. Dramatic sleeves, diamonds, that purse, a world map with a queer couple kissing strategically placed on his heart — The Schitt’s Creek star had the lovely message of inclusivity loud and clear.

Dressed in Dior, actress Yara Shahidi honoured Josephine Baker with her look of the night. She wore a beautiful custom Christian Dior gown with a sleek belt, elbow-length gloves, a braided cap and diamond choker and headband.

Power Couples

A blingy purple co-ord set for her and a leather look for him — Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala as a couple and the chemistry between the two was unmissable.

Another couple who made a lovey-dovey entry was Justin and Hailey Bieber who twinned in black. We loved their no-gimmick look that reminded us of prom-night looks.

The co-chairs

Award-winning American singer Billie Eilish ditched her fave baggy pants and oversized tees for some Old Hollywood charm. Wearing a billowy Oscar de la Renta off-shoulder gown, Cartier jewels and Jimmy Choo shoes, the Bad Guy singer channelled some major Marilyn Monroe vibes.

Carrying a book in her hand, co-chair Amanda Gorman took inspo from the Statue of Liberty! The poet wore a Vera Wang number with stones as a part of her eye make-up.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka’s outfit was an ode to multiculturalism. America to her is a blend of cultures so she celebrated Haitian as well as her Japanese heritages via the Louis Vuitton outfit.

A tuxedo jacket with sweatpants and Chucks — Timothee Chalamet, co-chair of the night, opted for a mixed-bag look that mostly spelt cool.
