Hair Accessories: Subhamita’s elaborate hair ornament was created using traditional accessories that you could easily find in your mother’s or grandmother’s cupboards, perhaps unused in recent times — keychains! The long plaited look was adorned with silver jewellery from Glow-N-Glitter, complementing Warssi Kolkata’s handloom zari sari. An intricately designed hansuli, usually worn around the neck, was invertedly used on top, followed by a big keychain and a three-layered keychain. Toe rings of different sizes were used to complement the chunky jewellery pieces for a complete look. Perfect for flaunting your long hair on Diwali in a safe manner rather than tying it up into a boring bun!

A navratna set is a prized possession in every personal jewellery casket, but if you are too bored of putting it around your neck, use it to tame your hair this Diwali and pair it up with a western outfit too! The colourful navratna gold and polki mala from Avama Jewellers was used as double-layered headband in this frame. A navratna gold and polki hand accessory was used as a choker around the neck to complete the look in this Label Deepshika Agarwal outfit.

Mathapattis are on trend. But if you are not sure of investing in one, invest in a chunky neckpiece instead! This diamond and polki necklace from Virrayaa Jewellery, set in gold and accentuated with emeralds and South Sea pearls, on Meghna, is used as an ultra-glam mathapatti for Diwali, paired with an embellished outfit from Sayantan Sarkar.

STYLING NOTES:

I believe, style is very personal. These looks have been created in a manner where you can re-style a single jewellery piece as per your personal style. These styles are effortless and can be easily followed at home for creating a variety of festive looks with a single jewellery piece. These styles also show that you don’t always have to buy a trending jewellery piece, you can use your mother’s or grandmother’s jewellery items too for a trendy style or set a trend with your style. It was really exciting for me to do this shoot because as a stylist we always look at experimenting with different looks — Anupam Chatterjee, stylist

FOR YOUR FEET

A pair of payal is often a festive must for many. This traditional pair of chunky payals on Subhamita from Glow-N-Glitter has a contemporary look to it with parrot motifs. Amp up the look with rings of various sizes on your toes for a contemporary-chic look in a traditional jewellery piece. The green and silver zari sari from Warssi Kolkata complements the feet painted with aalta.

AS A KAMARBANDH

Contouring the empire line in a sari with a kamarbandh is in fashion. Use your heavy neckpieces to create the look. This silver Guttapusalu necklace from Abira is a classic design from Andhra Pradesh, fringed with small-sized pearl bunches around the edge, used for accessorising an ink blue handloom sari from Warssi Kolkata, paired with an organza blouse from Sixth Avenue Store.

HAIR AND MAKE-UP NOTES:

Hair and make-up was kept neat and easy to follow, complementing the silver and polki jewellery looks. For the silver jewellery, simple kohl eyes or smokey eyes has been used with various nude shades on the lips. For polki, a little drama has been added with winged liner. Shades of pink and peach have been used for the eyes and lips with gelled-back or finger-textured hair to add the festive touch — Bhaskar Biswas, hair and make-up pro

LET YOUR HAND DO THE TALKING

A silver choker is quite a common jewellery item in one’s casket. Use it as a statement armlet and grab all eyes! Designed with motifs from tribal culture, this choker from Karishmaz with an adjustable tassel cord does well as an armlet too. A brooch used as a hair accessory completes the look.
