Spring/Summer trends 2021. Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire have their big lists out. My top picks :
B&W: Black and white. B&W never really goes away, yet it seems to have come back. Shout out to all our whites and blacks. Pair them together, and nail this one down.
Silver: Cool tone, cool bling. All this while metallic has held its ground. This season, it’s silver. Go bling with this soothing tone. Silver grey works too. Adding a little to your eyes, or just silver accessories will be spot on. Men can opt for silver gray ties or pocket silks.

Sheer dresses: All through last year, fluid and free has been a trend. Sheer is about freedom. Sheer dresses are raging, but it’s not for everyone. If you want to do sheer, you can wear a slip underneath for ease of mind. Fabrics such as organza, chiffon, tulle fall under the sheer category.
Cutouts: A recent spread on a well known glossy has JLo sporting this trend in a red cutout Prada top. Cutouts can be sensual. The flip side: one must know where to draw a line. Cutouts are about showing a little bit of skin, and leaving the rest to imagination. Slit at the waist dresses, pants, small slit on a top work splendidly.
The men can do cut outs too — get your old jeans, rip it across one knee, wear your basic tee, and the weekend look is set.
Wide leg pants: After all the lounging, comfort has become a fashion staple. Welcome wide leg pants. Let the air in and be ultra hip and comfy. Pair these with singlets. You are a style diva.
Pastels: They are being called “sorbet tones”. Anything minty, peachy, lavender or pink will seal the deal.
Scarves: This one accessory protects the hair while adding some oomph to any look. Top pick: Grace Kelly style. For the men: bandana style.
Floral prints: Flowers and spring are a combination. There are bold floral prints everywhere this season. Sport this trend with beautiful floral chiffon saris this season. Or go for floral shirts.
Bralette: From no bra to this. Bralettes are here to stay. For those who want to show some midriff, here is your chance. Tip: Wearing a bralette with an open jacket makes for a classy look. Those not so sure about the midriff, wear an oversized shirt over the bralette, and button up the midriff area. Voila. Take your pick from studded, lacy, blingy or sporty.
(For its origin, etymology and demystification, look right.)
