Tara Sutaria, set to star with Suniel Shetty’s son Ahan in the RX 100 remake, tentatively titled Tadap, was showstopper on Day 4 of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020 for designer Punit Balana’s collection “The Royal Bagh” on Saturday. The Woods caught up with Tara — stunning in a blush pink embroidered lehenga — for a chat backstage before the show.
The Woods: You made your runway debut last year at LFW. How does it feel like walking this ramp again?
TARA: It’s really exciting. I think LFW is on the to-do list for any young actor and actress. I’m so excited to be working with Punit on this because he is someone I’m very fond of.
What’s your personal style like?
Chic, minimal and lots of white!
Tell us one thing that no one knows about you.
I don’t work out, I just dance (laughs).
Tell us one beauty ritual that you swear by.
Less is more!
If we open your handbag, what are the five things we will always find?
A speaker, cellphone, lip-gloss, a prayer for St. Jude, charcoal pencils and a sketch pen set.
From being a VJ in Disney Channel India to now, how do you view your journey so far?
It’s exciting because I always wanted to sing and now I’m acting in films. It’s been a great journey and something that is ever changing.
You sing so well. Would we see you singing sometime in your own films?
That’s the next plan. I hope it happens this year or next year.
As a young actor in Bollywood, what are the challenges do you think new actors face today?
We are very fortunate to have big teams that support us and take care of us. The challenge we face is that we need to keep it real because I think the audience have now realised what’s real and what’s not.
Who’s your favourite designer of all time?
Today, I’m absolutely in love with what Punit has made me wear. His designs make me feel really feminine and pretty all the time. But I also love Anamika Khanna, Sabyasachi, Manish (Malhotra)... there are so many.
Who’s your 4am friend in Bollywood?
It’s not a Bollywood friend, it’s my twin sister (Pia)!
You don’t come from a film background. Was it hard for you to make a mark?
No, I don’t think so. I think it’s all in our head that it’s easier for some and difficult for some, you know! Obviously yes, some people do have great luck but with hard work, dedication — and if you’re really good at what you do — you will shine.
