Do you break into a sweat at the thought of a social invite thinking about what to wear? Do you feel like you have nothing to wear even if your wardrobe is overflowing? You have been circulating the same set of clothes or reduced your fashion to one uniform style?
If the answer is yes to even one of the above questions, you may be experiencing Sartorial Stress and Decision Fatigue!
Be stylish with minimal effort and save time. Keep the suitcase in mind.
When we pack for a vacation, we plan our wardrobe with great precision. The items are limited, but perfectly chosen. The pre-planning automatically frees our time, helping us enjoy and relax during the vacation.
Can we try the vacation theory on our wardrobe at all times?
The PCD (Plan, Curate, Discard) method:
PLAN: Every suitcase has a limit, which makes it a must for us to plan exactly how much to take keeping in mind the location and activities. Using the same concept, divide your wardrobe into separate parts keeping your your lifestyle in mind.
CURATE: A suitcase is a well-curated mix of the best things. Let us then focus on and choose only the items that make us feel our best. It may seem a difficult thing to do, but practice makes perfect. A well-curated wardrobe which makes decision-making a cake walk.
DISCARD: Before we pack, we may try on many things, but choose only a few. Apply this technique to your wardrobe. Discarding is one of the easiest ways to get a neat wardrobe. The less stuff you have to maintain, the more relieved and well-turned out you will be.
Tip 1: To reduce stress, streamline and discard unwanted things immediately.
Tip 2: Think about your lifestyle, your comfort level and your body type and curate clothes accordingly.
Tip 3: Don’t be in a rush. A sense of urgency slows down the process.
Tip 4: Relax. Know that fashion is like a muscle, the more you work it, the better is gets.
Tip 5: Study yourself. It helps to observe what feels good to you and what does not. That said, you may want to give yourself complete permission to change your choices and move forward.
The Starter Kit:
1. A few basic T-shirts.
2. At least six more colours in the wardrobe beyond black, navy, beige and white.
3. A few accessories that can go with most things: scarves, watches, sunglasses, baubles.
4. One pair of formal shoes, one casual. One pair of trainers and one pair of flip flops.
5. One pair of trousers/ one skirt in a basic colour or if you wear Indian clothes only, two kurtas and a few saris. Denims for sure, if you are a denim person.
6. A formal shirt/ dress. This is the start. Then block by block, build up a wardrobe that is entirely wearable and totally fun!
Stay safe stay stylish.
