Nikhil Mehra of Shantnu & Nikhil was glad to be back in Kolkata. “There is a certain amount of substance that men have in terms of design and it taught me a few things. In 2013, I created a drape for men in kurtas. It was very well accepted in Calcutta. So, it was the start of something new for me and the brand and we took it to Hyderabad and Delhi and of course it blew out of proportion across the country where everyone started to wear drapes and asymmetrical shapes, but actually it all started from Kolkata,” said the elusive designer.

A big “foodie”, Rimzim Dadu’s “fondest memories” of Calcutta are of phuchkas and jhalmuri. “I love sweets, so also sandesh... gur sandesh,” smiled the fashion designer who has just clocked 15 years in the profession. “When I started out I was 21 and at that point I wanted to take things as they come. I wanted my brand to stand for something that is unique. Looking back, my work and craft has evolved,” she added.

Actress Ushasi Ray dropped by for the launch of Adorini by Rangoli, at Rangoli Gariahat (Rashbehari Avenue), a collection of festive saris that celebrates women. She looked beautiful in an orange and pink number. “She (a woman) is a daughter, a sister, a friend, a consort, a mother... but beyond all the ways that she enriches our lives, she is her... she is all that and so much more. She is the beloved. She is Adorini,” said Nikhil Jain of Rangoli.
