An Indo-Swedish designer is upcycling silk saris to make bucket bags and scarves. Sofia Mehrotra launched her label in 2017. She makes cane bucket bags with silk sari linings. She has a degree from the London College of Fashion, is proficient with the needle and works with a sourcing company based in India. She produces pouches made from upcycled saris that go with traditional wear. Her line of pouches is called Damyanti, after her grandmother. It is difficult to say when the next opportunity to dress up would be in a COVID-world, but whenever it is, these patterned pouches and basket bags are chic as well as wash-friendly, a need of the hour.
