THEME:

The theme of this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibit was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” that saw some over-the-top, dramatic, wild and imaginative fashion moments on the red carpet. The exhibit was inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay that described ‘camp’ as ‘love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration’.

From 2017 to 2019, a lot has happened for Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. From walking the red carpet for the first time to walking the pink carpet together as a married couple, the chemistry of NickYanka was not to be missed.

PeeCee went full dramatic in Dior Haute Couture, Chopard jewels, frizzy hair and an OTT eye make-up, while Nick complemented her in a Dior number and resembled Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger from Game Of Thrones.

“Baby there’s no other superstar/You know that I’ll be/Your papa-paparazzi”

Lady Gaga sure knows how to live up to her song lyrics and make the paparazzi go crazy! The A Star Is Born actor went for not one but four red-carpet looks, complete with props. She entered wearing a huge hot-pink Brandon Maxwell gown, then quickly moved to a billowy black gown with an umbrella as her prop. Soon, she shifted to another hot pink gown and finally stripped to chic lingerie and blingy tights! Talk of nailing the theme of the night, there was none like Lady Gaga!

Katy Perry took the whole “lit” word too seriously! The Bon Appetit singer dazzled in a Moschino by Jeremy Scott outfit that had well-lit Swarovski crystal chandeliers around her waist and on her head. Wish we had her to light up the super dark Game of Thrones Season 8 episode 3 for some better visibility!

One look at Kim Kardashian West and you would have thought she has emerged straight out of a swimming pool with wet hair and water dripping down her body. But wait! It was the sheer magic of the outfit by Thierry Mugler, who returned from his retirement to make this outfit for Kim K!

The Jenner sisters Kylie and Kendall went all out dressed in Atelier Versace fur and feather numbers in lavender and orange respectively. Kylie went OTT with exaggerated sleeves while Kendall complemented her tall frame with orange wings. The inspiration behind their look? Cinderella’s step sisters, as posted by Kendall on her Insta story.

What connected our girl Deepika Padukone and Kacey Musgraves? Barbie! If DP looked pretty and princessy in a Zac Posen pink ball gown with high pony tail, purple glitter eyes, dark mouth and a bejewelled headband, Kacey’s fuchsia pink Moschino outfit paired with a hair dryer purse and perfectly blow-dried blonde hair made her look pretty as a doll.

Cardi B’s blanket-like long train with feather on the fridges and that pose gave us a deja vu moment because she did remind us of Rihanna’s famous yellow number by Guo Pei in 2015. The I Like It singer managed to climb the famous stairs wearing the Thom Browne dramatic number but was not spared by the Internet that saw her look being compared to ‘blood cells’ and ‘placenta’.

DRAMATIC MEN

Spooky and disorienting was Ezra Miller’s make-up who went all out in Burberry.

If anyone else gave competition to Lady Gaga’s entry it was Billy Porter who had six men holding him. His golden number from head to toe had an Egyptian feel but he also reminded us of the golden snitch in Harry Potter!

Trust Jared Leto to shock and stun with his style. Leto stood out in a red Gucci ensemble with crystal chains all across but it was the replica of his head which he held on to, that made people gasp!

Harry Styles sent his fans in a tizzy as he stepped out wearing a ruffled sheer blouse that flashed his tattooes! Full marks for pulling off painted finger nails with so much confidence.
