The warrior queen is known to have worn the nine-yard sari in the Maharashtrian nauvari style. In her well-known portrait on horseback, she is shown wearing a turban in the battlefield, armoured like a soldier, and a belt to keep the sari together. The sword that she is brandishing could also be suspended from the belt. The gold jewellery, the half moon bindi, and the mango shaped nose ring that adorns her in another portrait, were all popular accessories.

Style inspo: Wear the nose ring with a silk sari on a festive occasion. The moon bindi is a delicate look that can go with any Indian outfit. A delicate metal kamarbandh/belt can be worn over a sari or a lehnga for adding definition to a traditional look.

Gabbar Singh

Unforgiving evil, dressed up in a khaki safari suit. The shirt had four pockets, and over his left shoulder, hung a dirty belt with cartridges. Add to this, unshaved face and unkempt hair. Gabbar was low on morality but high on fashion: an icon of military style. Not to forget the neck accessory, a metallic taveez hanging from a black thread, and a metal hoop in one ear and black leather dusty boots.

Style inspo: Pair khaki/olive shirts with denims or skirts. Accessorising with tan shoes will take them up a notch. Metallic cuff bracelets or earrings will work wonders.
