Congratulations! The collection looks in sync with your style statement. What drew you to the collaboration?

Pause was the perfect fit for our first foray into apparel as our basic intentions behind creating a product aligns. Forging alliances with brands that match our ethos can drive a positive effect several magnitudes greater than if we just act alone. A collaboration with a brand like Pause allows us to do this at a bigger scale in terms of concepts, conscious textiles and therefore higher financial viability as well.

What was the brainstorming session like?

It was an absolute pleasure to work with the Bombay Shirt team, especially Neha, the founder of Pause. It felt seamless and smooth and one can see that in the execution of the collection.

What were your pointers?

Utilisation of materials to avoid waste. Creating pieces that reflect balanced design aesthetics of both brands.

What are your favourite pieces?

There are many favourite pieces, to name a few: I See You top, a printed draped button-down top. It’s free size and extremely comfortable. We designed eye enamel buttons to match the print motif. The co-ord sets are lovely too, as they are super comfortable again and can be paired with other items as separates too.

What of your personal style do we see in the collection?

I am all about comfort, and that really comes through in the collection. I am usually in a printed shirt with PJs at home or outside, so you see a lot of co-ords in the collection, which I would mix and match to wear. I love gold as one can see from our jewellery collections and we brought in gold into the collab by creating metal enamel buttons.

How have you married the jewellery aesthetics to clothes?

The prints are designed by me and it’s natural for the design aesthetics to pass through as it should. We usually make 3D pieces so it was fun to see our designs come to life in a 2D format as prints on textiles. A lot of the motifs used to create the prints are inspired by our classic jewellery pieces like the Shiv eye, heart and the tiger. We created repeat geometric prints for this collaboration and brought in metal which has always been a part of our creative practice with enamel buttons inspired by our Shiv eye motif and other geometric shapes.

What is predominant in your wardrobe?

Shirts — printed/solid and lots of PJs. I create my own version of mix-match co-ord sets.

As a jewellery designer, what have been your favourite collaborations?

Each collaboration we have worked on is so close to my heart. Creating a custom jewellery collection for Rahul Mishra for Paris Fashion Week in 2018 was definitely one for the bucket list. It was a delight to see our pieces walk down the runway in Paris and it was also the first time we worked with silver for a collaboration.

Working on Bye Felicia by the brand Chola by Sohaya was another collaboration which gave us a lot of freedom in terms of design and we launched our avant-garde eyewear for the collection.

Pause is super special to see our motifs come to life on textiles, it’s also our first foray into apparel. Each collaboration has been a learning process and gratifying as a brand.

Your dream collaboration would be with?

Stella McCartney. The brand is invested in working with innovative materials and creating clothing that drives a positive impact on people and the planet. In India, I would love to collaborate with Good Earth to experiment with homeware. They truly create thoughtful designs with exquisite craftsmanship.

Whose sense of fashion do you admire?

Zoe Kravitz, she has truly mastered the art of making wardrobe classics look so fresh and eclectic by pairing it with contemporary pieces or layering it with funkier unique pieces.
