KK got his first break in Gulzar’s classic Machis in 1996 when he sang the popular number Chod Aaye Hum with senior singers Hariharan and Suresh Wadkar. Since then, he has given his silken touch to many classic and popular numbers.
Many would say he was underrated, yet his fans swear by him. The sudden demise of the versatile singer has shocked us out of our wits. Time and again, he has proved his magic with the tune thanks to some memorable numbers. Be it Himesh Reshammiya or Vishal-Shekhar or Pritam, KK was a hot favourite during his peak. Here are ten of his best. We miss you KK!
Pal
From the album Pal that made him an instant star and floodgates opened. Superb renditon and soulful lyrics that talk of memories...
Ek Pal
Remember Pyaar Ke Pal being played at your school farewell? We totally do. This is one of our all-time favourite songs by the singer.
Tadap Tadap
In his early days, KK got the biggest challenge of his career from Ismail Darbar. He got to sing this anthem of wounded lovers in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. KK expressed the pain in the lyrics of Mehboob perfectly through his varied vocals.
Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai
KK’s silky smooth vocals melt together with Pritam’s sweet arrangements to create a genuine song for the movie Gangster. KK does a wonderful job in rendering this track that only grows on you with more exposures.
Alvida
Music by Pritam, for the track Alvida from Life in a Metro. KK starts off really soft and then takes the song through to its resounding refrain of Alvida – poignant and profound and straight from the heart as he says goodbye – he proved to be a versatile singer who can sing any genre of song with élan and ease.
It's The Time To Disco
This Kal Ho Na Ho, song brings a new-age zing to filmi music composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. There is so much this man, this voice gave us. Not a single day passed without stumbling upon his voice. Every song traces back to a memory for each one of us.
Haan Tu Hai
An iconic romantic track from the film Jannat that broke the internet in 2008. Composed by Pritam and picturised on Emraan Hashmi, KK simply rocked in the number.
Aankhon Mein Teri
Well, KK has rendered his voice to this Vishal-Shekhar tune from Om Shanti Om, as if he was born to sing this song. His evocative vocals seamlessly latch onto the acoustic rhythm, becoming one with the music itself.
Yaaron Dosti
It was 1999 and the song Yaaron had just released. The voice behind the song struck a chord with us and we were left asking for more. And the man in question, KK, did not disappoint. As years passed by, KK continued to give us back-to-back chartbusters on love and friendship and with every new song we fell for his voice a little more.
Beetein Lamhe
Another soulful rendition by KK from The Train. This song composed by Mithoon ruled the Hindi music charts for a long time.
Khuda Jaane
This is a romantic track from this YRF's superhit film Bachna Ae Haseeno. Singer KK's Khuda Jaane (with Shilpa Rao) was a smashing hit and topped the radio charts for weeks.
Main Kya Hoon
Presenting another heart-touching song from the movie Love Aaj Kal in the voice of KK. The song lyrics was written by Irshad Kamil and the music is composed by Pritam. It was released in 2009 on behalf of Eros.
