Here comes an ‘Episodic Album’, titled Toss, from Flemingway

Fade Away is a song about a unique circumstance where you don’t want to lose the connection with somebody but at the same time cannot bear to listen to her speak any more, says Flemingway

Musician Flemingway’s Toss, the album, makes a soft landing with the August 18 release of Fade Away. It is the first of 15 songs set to release every Friday. For Flemingway, who has an early-year connect with Calcutta, this project took no less than four-and-a-half years as he started writing Toss at the beginning of 2019.

Flemingway calls Toss an “episodic album” that has a consistent storyline with each song connected to the next. “Every song reveals more about the plot every week,” says the one-stop package who writes, croons, records and produces. In sum, he pulls together not-so-proven ingredients in the hope of alchemising them into something heady.

Fade Away is a song about a unique circumstance where you don’t want to lose the connection with somebody but at the same time cannot bear to listen to her speak any more. Neither can you be honest about your own whereabouts because you have secrets that you can’t reveal. I wrote the initial idea for Fade Away in early September 2019. It was the third song I wrote for Toss, but I knew instantly that it was going to be the opener.”

Why will Toss be different from any other album? “I wanted to make an ‘episodic album’. Something that hasn’t been done before. Firstly, the songs are connected, and secondly, I wanted the whole release process to feel like a season of a TV show. So the fans can come along for a ride.”

Any chance of live performances? “I’d like the concerts to take the fans on the journey that the album takes you on if you listen to it from top to bottom, so it’d be challenging to do that until November 24, when the entire album will be out. After that, absolutely,” says Flemingway, who knows how to cobble together disparate elements into an ace smash.
