Smokey eyes and nude lips. Striking bold red lips. Kajal-laden eyes. The dewy no-make-up look. Kareena Kapoor Khan looks like a ‘diva’ in them all. So, when she decided to co-create her first line of make-up, for Lakme of which she is the brand ambassador, t2 had to chat with her.   

Congratulations! This sounds exciting. What was your reaction when you were approached to co-create a make-up line? Were you like a kid in a candy store? 

When Lakme came to me with the idea to start my own line, I was very excited. I love make-up and it felt like the perfect fit. Lakme and I have had a long association and I couldn’t have found a better partner to launch my very first make-up range with. It was so much fun playing with colours and textures and curating every product and every name, which are actually inspired by my different moods. It’s exciting to finally see it come alive!  

Where did you start and how did you go about it? What did you keep in mind or who did you keep in mind considering it has Lakme’s beauty theme for the season, Shades of a Diva, at the core? 

It started long back, the inspiration behind the collection was that there are different aspects and moods of me, and my make-up changes with that. And that is how Shades of a Diva came alive and how we named every product in the range. For example, sometimes I feel mischievous and the pink in the pout definers reminded me of that and we named it after it. My favourite of course is the Fearless Red. I think every woman has a fearless, bold and confident side to her and this shade defines that. 

All your babies really, but do you have a favourite product from the range? 

I love the Fearless Red in the pout definers, but I’m also very excited that for the first time ever Lakme introduced contour products, like blush sticks and foundation sticks that are extremely easy to use and this is what women want today.

What was the first product you curated and tried? Have you tried them all? 

Of course! This is my collection. I have tried and tested all of them. Named them all, chose the shades. Everything! Kareena Kapoor Khan by Lakme Absolute is truly my first make-up line.

What is your earliest memory of make-up? 

Trying kajal and my mother’s lipstick. 

Is there something you always carry in your bag? 

A lipstick and a kajal.
