Renowned Indian spiritual master and humanitarian leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has achieved an extraordinary milestone by being honoured with proclamations from 30 cities across the United States and Canada for his exceptional contributions to global peace. The latest two regions to join this historic recognition are Howard County, Maryland, and the state of Texas.
The proclamations, bestowed upon the spiritual guru, commend their relentless endeavours in serving humanity, spreading joy, resolving conflicts, and working diligently for environmental preservation. In an increasingly polarised world, Shankar's efforts have been instrumental in bringing communities together and fostering unity and understanding.
The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, praised his unwavering commitment to peace and harmony, saying, "Emboldened by deep-seated convictions, Gurudev and his followers have journeyed to war-ravaged regions of the world, counseled hardened prisoners, and resolved seemingly irreconcilable differences."
Similarly, Howard County, Maryland, hailed him as a global humanitarian, spiritual leader, and peace envoy, recognizing him as one of the most influential change makers in the world.
Howard County declared July 22, 2023, as Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Day, while Texas and Birmingham designated July 29 and July 25, respectively, to commemorate the spiritual leader's significant impact on transforming lives through spirituality and service.
During his visit to the honoured cities, Shankar was met with warm welcomes, addressing thousands of seekers from diverse backgrounds, races, and genders. Through powerful meditations, he led them on the transformative journey within themselves. Additionally, Notes for the Journey Within, a book that addresses timeless questions of sincere seekers on the path of spirituality and daily living, was launched during the events.
This recognition from US and Canadian cities comes closely following Allegheny County's proclamation, making it the 28th city to honour Sr Sri Ravi Shankar for his remarkable humanitarian efforts in promoting peace and resolving conflicts. The citation from Allegheny County praised his initiatives to unite diverse communities through volunteerism and social initiatives, effectively reducing inner-city violence and crime.
Gurudev's tour of the US culminates with the upcoming grand World Culture Festival, scheduled to be hosted between September 29 and October 1, 2023, at the iconic National Mall in Washington DC. This festival will bring together one of the largest gatherings for peace and celebration of cultural diversity under Gurudev's leadership, reaffirming his commitment to fostering global harmony and understanding.
