The Designer’s Class, an e-learning platform that launched in September 2021 and focuses ‘solely on the different verticals of design’, has launched an interior design module with Gauri Khan. She took a few questions from The Telegraph on email about the course, her student days and her aesthetics.

How was it travelling back to the classroom with The Designer’s Class?

It was great, just like old college days. I got to learn a lot from it. Learning is a process that has always intrigued me and helped me stay ahead in this industry. It is no wonder then that I would like to share my experience in the industry with future designers. My collaboration with The Designer’s Class is an ideal and organic evolution of my love for learning. It gives me an opportunity to share my professional experiences with people who love design as much as I do.

What are your fondest memories from your student days?

When I started doing art.

Were you a naughty student?

No, but I was full of pranks.

What were your favourite subjects?

Art and history.

What kind of a teacher would you make? Lenient or strict?

Lenient.

Can you give us a sneak peek of your course?

The interior design module is created keeping in mind the current industry scenario. It has all the necessary tools and tips that enable aspiring designers to understand the practical application of design theories to create aesthetic and functional spaces. Each one of these topics provides a fundamental framework for students to work with, along with providing them with examples from my projects.

What would be the foundation of your aesthetics?

Bold and beautiful, Patek Philippe has been an inspiration to me, but I’ll still consider the structures all over the world and nature to be where I draw new ideas from.

What is a Gauri Khan signature, when it comes to decor?

Eclectic. I also love statement chandeliers.

What is your favourite zone in your house?

The family room, as well as my kids’ rooms which I got to revamp recently.

Given a choice, what would you like to study now?

Every day is learning for me, so I feel like I’m still on my journey.
