The Future Hope Annual Mela returned this year with the theme Reduce Recycle Reuse. Held at the NGO’s Rowland Road premises, it attracted nearly 1,000 visitors who tried their hands at innovative games and the art and craft stalls which displayed quilts, coasters, bags, framed pictures among others. CEO Sujata Sen who herself tried her hands at the innovative games said that the entire mela essayed waste management and that in every sense it was a “green mela”. Visitors also thronged the snacks stalls which served lip-smacking ghoogni, puchkas, peas kachori, papri chaat and aloo rolls besides cakes and cookies — all made and served by the house parents and children. Later in the evening the crowd sat down to enjoy a cultural programme that included street theatre, skits, dance, poetry, music, gymnastics and a fashion show by the teachers. Present on the occasion were founder Tim Grandage, former principal Paul Carling and his wife Jane, school officials such as Kaveri Dutt (Loreto House), Amita Prasad and Priyadarshinee Guha (Indus Valley World School), Rajshri Biswas (Garden High School), Amitava and Ananya Bhattacharya of Banglanatak.com and Sunil Bhandari, vice president, RPG-SG Goenka group.
