The hate and dust of the Assembly elections or the fear factor of the second wave of COVID-19 seem to fade away as one steps into the island of calm that is CIMA Gallery displaying the annual Summer Show.

On till July 3, artworks by both senior and contemporary artists from across the country are being showcased here. The CIMA Summer Show doesn’t have a particular theme and everything from watercolours to oils, collage to prints, sculptures to installations finds space within the gallery walls.

“The Summer Show is inspired by the annual summer exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts, London, where paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture, architectural designs and models are all shown together,” said Rakhi Sarkar, director of CIMA.

For CIMA, the Summer Show is like a summary of the year’s exhibitions. So, one can find paintings and sculptures from CIMA Award winners, representations of their shows Mixed Media and Untitled, a few paintings by Sanat Kar from the Sanat Kar retrospective and works by Prashant Patil. There are also fresh paintings by artists like Manish Moitra, Meera Devidayal and others, and paintings from CIMA’s collections like M.F. Husain’s ‘Thief of Baghdad’, Ramkinkar Baij’s artwork and Seema Ghurayya’s untitled piece.

“It is an eclectic collection from our shows from this year, the gallery’s collection and new contributions from artists,” said Sarkar.
