A programme of music Sharod Byalaye, Shurer Bhyalaye, was organised by The Calcutta Club on the evening of September 28 at the club premises. It featured performances by renowned classical vocalist Sohini Roy Chowdhury and Chandipath with narration by Korak Basu. Gifted with impeccable voice and artistic instinct, Sohini Roy Chowdhury left the audience spellbound with her renditions of puratoni and baithaki songs in the first part of the programme. Elocutionist Korak Basu complemented her performance with the depth and versatility of his voice and diction as he traced the history attached to each song. Ato goyna beti kothae peli and Chharile to chhara nahi jae (toppa song by Nidhubabu) are a few among them that deserve special mention. The second part of the programme included popular agomoni songs interlaced with chanting of Sanskrit shlokas from Sri Sri Chandi by the artistes. Iconic songs like Bajlo tomar alor benu, Akhilo bimane tobo, Bhubono mohini bondi tomare and others enthralled the audience and filled the air with festive spirit and fervour. The performing artistes of the evening were then felicitated by club president Indranil Ghosh and Dr Pradeep K Nemani.
