Zomato, the online food delivery platform, has discontinued its loyalty programmes — Pro and Pro Plus, as it plans to bring out a new offering.
The Deepinder-Goyal-led firm launched Zomato Pro in 2020 and Zomato Pro Plus in 2021 under which customers were given facilities such as free delivery and exclusive deals at several restaurants in the country.
Customers of the app took to platforms such as Twitter to complain that their membership could not be renewed.
“Please be informed that renewal/purchase of the Pro membership is unavailable as we are upgrading so as to provide you a better experience,’’ the company said.
A Zomato spokesperson reportedly said they are not onboarding new members and merchant partners to the loyalty programmes.
Though active members can enjoy the benefits promised, they will not be able to renew their membership after the tenure expires.
Among the two facilities, the Zomato Pro programme came in lieu of Zomato Gold, which provided discounts andother benefits to its customers.
Rival Swiggy also has a loyalty programme called Swiggy One which offers perks such as free delivery from all restaurants up to 10 km on orders above Rs 149.
There are two plans being offered by the company — Rs 549 for three months and Rs 1,499 for 12 months.
On Monday, the Zomato share closed flat at Rs 61.90 on the BSE.
Meanwhile, Nomura began its coverage of the stock with a reduced stance and a target price of Rs 50 per share.
The brokerage pointed out that double-digit contribution margin in food delivery will be a tough task while the acquisition of Blinkit will delay the path to profitability.
